We have lived here for several years, but every time we arrive below Pitigliano, when after the last bend this suddenly shows itself, we cannot hold back an exclamation of amazement. It looks like a ship floating in the surrounding woods, an ancient nativity scene and at the same time a complex Hesherian architecture.
It is definitely worth a visit. Strolling through its alleys at every corner a surprise awaits you, a terrace resembling the deck of a ship, a narrow passageway from which a glimpse of the surrounding area can be glimpsed, the gorge of a wine cellar rigorously carved into the tuff.
The quaint old town is also known as Little Jerusalem, both for its similar skyline and for the historic presence of a Jewish community that has always been well integrated into the social context and has its own synagogue here.
